Experience Culture, History, and Live Entertainment

Join host and cabaret artist Martin Quilitz on a fascinating journey through West Berlin. Amid historic theaters, legendary music clubs, and elegant boulevards, a century of Berlin’s rich cultural history comes to life.

From the Golden Twenties and the postwar years to the era leading up to the fall of the Berlin Wall, the former West was the cultural heart of the city. Along the way, Martin Quilitz combines carefully selected locations with personal anecdotes and unique insights into Berlin’s vibrant theater scene.

Kickoff at the S-Bahn Arches on Savignyplatz

The experience begins in the lively neighborhood surrounding Savignyplatz. Guests meet at Café Einstein beneath the iconic S-Bahn arches, where coffee or tea provides the perfect setting to get acquainted with your host, Martin Quilitz.

Here, Martin introduces the cultural history of the area - from its role as an elegant prewar hub and a showcase of West Berlin during the city’s division to its current renaissance as one of Berlin’s most dynamic cultural districts.

Theater des Westens: Berlin’s Grand Musical Stage

Just a short walk away stands one of Berlin’s most historic theaters: Theater des Westens. For more than a century, this landmark venue has played a central role in shaping the city’s theatrical landscape.

Martin Quilitz shares stories of legendary premieres, celebrated guests, and the theater’s evolution into one of Germany’s leading stages for musical productions.

Quasimodo: Jazz History Beneath the Streets

A few steps further lies a venue that has earned its place in music history: the legendary Quasimodo jazz club.

International stars have performed in this intimate basement venue - sometimes with little or no advance notice. Artists such as Prince and The Rolling Stones created unforgettable concert moments here. Today, Quasimodo remains one of Berlin’s most authentic and beloved live music destinations.

Fasanenstraße: A Boulevard of Culture and Creativity

Stepping onto Fasanenstraße means entering one of the most culturally significant streets in Berlin’s historic City West. Elegant boutiques, renowned hotels, galleries, and institutions such as the Literaturhaus, the Käthe Kollwitz Museum, and Villa Grisebach reflect the area’s rich heritage.

For generations, the street has served as a meeting place for writers, actors, artists, and intellectuals. Historic landmarks, including the Wintergarten complex and the former Jewish Community Center, bear witness to the artistic and social movements that have shaped West Berlin’s identity.

From picturesque Fasanenplatz, the tour continues to Bar jeder Vernunft, Berlin’s most celebrated private theater.

Grand Finale in the Spiegelzelt: Bar jeder Vernunft

The evening begins with a group dinner inside the theater’s magnificent 100-year-old Spiegelzelt, followed by an exceptional program of live entertainment and concerts.

Please check the respective dates in this program for information on the artists and ensembles performing during your visit.

Many renowned performers launched their careers at Bar jeder Vernunft, including Meret Becker and Max Raabe. Audiences continue to be delighted by acclaimed acts such as Pigor & Eichhorn, as well as international artists including Gayle Tufts and Rebecca Carrington.

To conclude the experience, guests enjoy a brief meet-and-greet with selected artists and members of the theater management. This personal encounter offers a unique behind-the-scenes perspective and makes for a memorable and authentic glimpse into Berlin’s theater and cabaret world.
