Historic Filmset Experience
Resistance in the Third Reich – Inside the Making of a Film Project
In the Footsteps of Resistance Fighter Albrecht Haushofer – Locations of the Film Project
Join an excursion where the history of resistance against National Socialism meets a contemporary film project. Actor Werner Daehn and historian Daniel Khafif guide you on a excursion to authentic locations that serve as settings for the feature film Die Sonette des letzten Tages. In this production, Werner Daehn — known for his work in German and international film and television — takes on the leading role of resistance fighter and poet Albrecht Haushofer, whose final days unfolded tragically in Berlin’s Moabit district.
This experience forges a unique connection between art, history, and remembrance, while offering an exclusive preview of a cinematic homage to courage and moral conviction.
Starting Point
The meeting point is located near what is now Berlin Central Station. Just a stone’s throw away stands the former Lehrter Straße prison, where Albrecht Haushofer was held in solitary confinement and composed his Moabit Sonnets as the world around him collapsed.
Moabit Regional Court and the Martyrs’ Cemetery
The route continues past the Moabit Regional Court to the former Martyrs’ Cemetery on Wilsnacker Straße. Here lie the victims of the final days of the war. A simple grave commemorates Haushofer’s life — and his tragic death. On site, the two experts weave together historical facts, biographical detail, and international scholarship into a compelling and nuanced portrait.
ULAP Steps – Scene of the Final Night
At the unassuming ULAP Steps (located in the former Universum Landes-Ausstellungs-Park) near the River Spree, the unthinkable occurred in the night of April 23, 1945: Albrecht Haushofer was shot there by members of the SS. Upon reaching the riverbank, you encounter a bust of the resistance fighter, inviting a moment of reflection. The site reveals its full emotional force in the interplay of history, personal fate, and cinematic interpretation.
Shared Dinner
The evening concludes with a seasonal three-course dinner, accompanied by an aperitif and wine, at one of Moabit’s culinary landmarks. In a relaxed atmosphere, you will have the opportunity to exchange impressions with Daehn and Khafif and reflect on the day’s experience together.
