A TV Host Reveals Her Very Own Berlin

Discover Berlin off the beaten path. TV host Gabi Becker invites you to explore some of her favorite places - accompanied by personal stories, unexpected encounters, and an authentic glimpse into the city’s creative and bohemian spirit.

On a leisurely stroll through selected neighborhoods in western Berlin, Gabi Becker takes you to places that often remain hidden from visitors: hidden treasures at a traditional flea market, Karl Lagerfeld’s former favorite bookstore, and legendary Berlin institutions where artists, actors, intellectuals, and colorful local characters have crossed paths for decades.

Along the way, Gabi shares her deeply personal connection to the city and offers an authentic and engaging perspective on the liberal, cosmopolitan lifestyle and vibrant cultural scene of western Berlin.

“For me, Berlin is more than just a city. It’s a mirror. A playground. A portal. And sometimes the best place in the world to find your way back to yourself.”

Meeting Point: Ludwigkirchplatz

The tour begins at Café Sweet2Go on Ludwigkirchplatz. Over coffee or tea, you’ll get to know Gabi personally and hear the first stories behind her Berlin.

Ludwigkirchplatz & Pariser Straße

From here, the walk leads through the charming neighborhood surrounding historic Ludwigkirchplatz and Pariser Straße.

Elegant Art Nouveau facades, independent boutiques, inviting cafés, and a diverse culinary scene give the neighborhood its distinctive character. With its leafy park, fountain, and the Catholic Church of St. Ludwig, Ludwigkirchplatz is an urban oasis in the heart of the city.

Yet behind the elegant facades lies a darker chapter of Berlin’s history. The numerous Stolpersteine along Pariser Straße commemorate Jewish residents who once lived here and were persecuted and murdered under the Nazi regime.

Bleibtreustraße & Savignyplatz

The tour continues along the iconic Bleibtreustraße, known for its magnificent Gründerzeit architecture, distinctive entrances, independent boutiques, and the historic arthouse cinema Filmbühne 66.

Gabi brings the street to life with stories about the people, businesses, and characters that have shaped it over the decades - along with personal insights into her own connection to this part of Berlin.

The street leads to Savignyplatz, a long-standing meeting place for artists, writers, and intellectuals.

Its cafés, galleries, the renowned Bücherbogen bookstore, and leafy park make Savignyplatz an ideal place to experience Berlin’s distinctive blend of culture, history, and urban life.

Flea Market on Straße des 17. Juni

From Savignyplatz, it’s just a few minutes by S-Bahn to Tiergarten Station and one of Berlin’s most traditional flea markets.

Among antiques, books, clothing, furniture, paintings, fabrics, dolls, jewelry, and porcelain, there are countless treasures waiting to be discovered.

Gabi shares some of her personal favorites and reveals why the best flea-market finds are often the ones you stumble upon when you’re not looking for anything at all.

Finale: Lunch at the Paris Bar

The tour concludes with a stroll along Fasanenstraße to the Paris Bar on Kantstraße - a true Berlin institution and, for decades, a favorite meeting place for artists, actors, writers, and media personalities.

Over a two-course lunch in this legendary setting, there is time to relax, exchange stories, and get to know Gabi on a more personal level.

And, of course, there will be more stories about Berlin - including the occasional unexpected anecdote from Gabi Becker’s own life in the city.
